Ibrahim (al-Nakha'i) (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him) led the Asr prayer with five rak'ahs. When he gave the salam, we said: You have led five rak'ahs. So he said to a man of the tribe of Nakha', who was called Ibrahim bin Suwayd: Is that so, O A'war? He said: Yes. So he led us in two prostrations while standing, then recited the tashahhud, then gave the salam, then said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to us; he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Asr prayer with five rak'ahs, so we said: O Messenger of Allah, has something been added to the prayer? He said: "What is that?" We said: You (peace and blessings be upon him) have led five rak'ahs. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a Companion called Dhu al-Shimalayn: "Is that so, O Dhu al-Yadayn?" He said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in two prostrations while sitting, then recited the tashahhud and gave the salam, then said: "O people, I am a human being like you; I forget as you forget. So when I forget, remind me. And when one of you has a doubt in his prayer and does not know whether he added or fell short, let him seek out what is correct, complete his prayer on that basis and perform two prostrations; for had anything been added to your prayer, I would certainly have informed you."
