حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، وَكَانَ عِنْدَهُ غُلَامٌ، فَقَرَأَ الْمُصْحَفَ وَعِنْدَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ: خَضْرَمَةُ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَيُّ دَرَجَاتِ الْإِسْلَامِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: الصَّلَاةُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: الزَّكَاةُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ، قَالَ: فَمَعَ مَنِ الْمَرْءُ؟ قَالَ: أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ
Zirr bin Hubaysh said that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) had a boy with him, and he was reading from the mushaf in the presence of his companions, when a man called Khadramah came and said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman, which of the ranks of Islam is the most excellent? He said: The prayer. He asked: Then which? He said: Zakah. He asked: Then which? He said: Kindness to parents. He asked: Then with whom will a person be (that is, in the Hereafter)? The narrator said: I think he said: With the one whom he loves.
