حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ الْخَطْمِيُّ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَا كَانَ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا كَانَ لَهُ حَوَارِيُّونَ يَهْدُونَ بِهَدْيِهِ، وَيَسْتَنُّونَ سُنَّتَهُ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ خُلُوفٌ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ، وَيَعْمَلُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ، مَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِيَدِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ، وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِلِسَانِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ، وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِقَلْبِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ، لَيْسَ وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There was no prophet but that he had close companions (hawariyyun) who followed his way and adopted his Sunnah. Then after them there will come unworthy successors who will say what they do not do, and do what you consider evil. Whoever strives against them with his hand is a believer, whoever strives against them with his tongue is a believer, and whoever strives against them with his heart is a believer; beyond that there is not even a mustard seed's weight of faith."
