Kurdus (may Allah have mercy on him) said: After the Isha prayer, al-Walid sent a message to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Sayyiduna Hudhayfah, Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud and Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with them) and said: This is the Eid of the Muslims, so how is the prayer to be performed? They said: Ask Abu Abdul-Rahman (Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)). So he asked him, and he said: "A man should stand and say four takbirs, then recite Surah al-Fatihah and a surah from the Mufassal, then say the takbir and bow; that makes five (takbirs). Then (in the second rak'ah) he should stand and recite Surah al-Fatihah and a surah from the Mufassal, then say four takbirs and bow with the last takbir; that makes nine (takbirs) in the two Eids." And none of them objected to it.
