It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "You are in a time whose preachers are few and whose scholars are many; they lengthen the prayer and shorten the sermon. And soon a time will come upon you whose preachers are many and whose scholars are few; they will lengthen the sermon and delay the prayer, until it will be said: This is the time of 'the setting of the dead'." I asked him: What is 'the setting of the dead'? He said: "When the sun turns very yellow (close to setting). So whoever among you lives to see that time, let him pray the prayer at its proper time; then if he is held back, let him pray with them (as well), and let him count the prayer he prayed alone as the obligatory one and the prayer with them as voluntary."
