Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 9451 — Among the Children of Israel, men

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Among the Children of Israel, men and women used to pray together. When a woman had a lover (a male friend), she would wear two qalibs (tall wooden clogs) to look tall for her lover. So Allah imposed menstruation upon them. Hence Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "Keep them back where Allah has kept them back." We asked Abu Bakr (Abd al-Razzaq): What are qalibayn? He said: "Two wooden clogs (raised shoes)."
