Alqamah narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Allah has cursed the women who tattoo, the women who have themselves tattooed, and the women who have gaps made between their teeth for beauty, changing the creation of Allah." This reached a woman of Banu Asad called Umm Ya'qub, and she said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman! I have learned that you have cursed such-and-such? He said: What is the matter with me that I should not curse the one whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed, and who is (also mentioned) in the Book of Allah? She said: I read (the entire Qur'an) between the two covers, and I do not find this (matter). He said: If you are a reader, then you have surely found it. Have you not read: "And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it" [Surah al-Hashr: 7]? She said: Indeed I have. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has indeed forbidden it. She said: I think that your own household also does some of this. He said: "Go and look." So she went in, but found nothing of what she was looking for. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Had it been so, she would not be staying with us."
Al-Dabari said: We asked Abu Bakr (Abd al-Razzaq): What is a namisah? He said: "The woman who plucks out her hair."
