Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8744 — The world is like a thaghab. We asked

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْكَنُودِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: «مَثَلُ الدُّنْيَا كَمَثَلِ ثَغَبٍ» قُلْنَا: وَمَا الثَّغَبُ؟ قَالَ: «الْغَدِيرُ ذَهَبَ صَفْوُهُ، وَبَقِي كَدَرُهُ، فَالْمَوْتُ تُحْفَةٌ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The world is like a thaghab." We asked: What is a thaghab? He said: "A pool whose clear water has gone and only its murky dregs remain; so death is a gift for every believer."
