حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ، قَالَ: ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ: ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّهُ: كَانَ يَقْرَأُ: {إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ} [الشعراء: ١٣٧] يَقُولُ: «شَيْءٌ اخْتَلَقُوهُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite the verse 'in hadha illa khuluqu al-awwalin' and would explain its meaning thus: "This is a fabricated matter which the earlier people invented themselves."
