Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: On the day of Badr I reached Abu Jahl while he lay struck down. I said: O enemy of Allah, Allah has disgraced you. He said: With what has Allah disgraced me? With a man whom you have killed? I had my sword with me, and I began striking him with it, but it made no impression on him, while he had his fine sword with him. I struck his hand and the sword fell from his hand, and I picked it up. Then I removed the helmet from his head and struck his neck. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah, besides whom there is no god?" I said: "By Allah, besides whom there is no god." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and make sure." So I went, running like a bird, then came back running like a bird and laughing, and I told him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and show me." So I went with him (peace and blessings be upon him) and showed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood over him, he said: "This is the Pharaoh of this Ummah."
Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Zayd bin Abi Unaysah narrated it like this from Abu Ishaq, from Amr bin Maymun, and Abu Waki' corroborated him.
