Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8347 — When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُلَاثَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ بَعَثَنِي إِلَى ثَقِيفٍ: «تَجَوَّزْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ يَا عُثْمَانُ، وَاقْدِرِ النَّاسَ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ، وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ، وَالْحَامِلَ وَالْمُرْضِعَ، إِنِّي لَأَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ فَأَتَجَوَّزُ»
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Thaqif, he said: "O Uthman, keep the prayer short, and measure the people by the weakest of them, for among them are the weak, those with needs, pregnant women and nursing women. I myself hear a child crying and shorten (the prayer)."
