Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8323 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو هَمَّامٍ الدَّلَّالُ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ الطَّائِفِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ مَسْجِدَ الطَّائِفِ حَيْثُ كَانَتْ طَاغِيَتُهُمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to build the mosque of Ta'if at the very place where their idol (taghut) had stood.
