حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَيْفَ أَقُولُ حِينَ أَسْأَلُ رَبِّي؟ فَقَالَ: «قُلِ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَعَافِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي» ، وَجَمَعَ أَصَابِعَهُ الْأَرْبَعَ إِلَّا الْإِبْهَامَ، «فَإِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ يَجْمَعْنَ لَكَ دِينَكَ وَدُنْيَاكَ»
Abu Malik al-Ashja'i narrates from his father that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and said: O Messenger of Allah, what should I say when I ask my Lord? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being and provide for me." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought together his four fingers, except the thumb: "For these words gather for you your religion and your worldly life."
