It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aswad bin Asram al-Muharibi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to Madinah with his fat camels at a time of famine and drought. When the people of Madinah saw them, they were amazed at how fat they were. So I mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for the camels, and they were brought. He (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to them, looked at them and asked: "Why have you brought these camels?" He said: "I wanted a servant in exchange for them." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who has a servant?" Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have one, O Messenger of Allah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring her." Sayyiduna Uthman brought her, and when Aswad saw her he said: "I want one like her." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She is yours, so take her." So Aswad took her, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took his camels. Then Aswad said: "O Messenger of Allah! Advise me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have control over your tongue?" He said: "If I do not have control over my tongue, then what will I have control over?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then do you have control over your hand?" He said: "If I do not have control over my hand, then what will I have control over?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then do not say anything with your tongue except what is good, and do not stretch out your hand except towards what is good."
