حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ سُلَيْمِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا نَجْلِسُ إِلَى أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ، فَيُحَدِّثُنَا حَدِيثًا كَثِيرًا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، فَإِذَا سَكَتَ قَالَ: «أَعَقِلْتُمْ؟ بَلِّغُوا كَمَا بُلِّغْتُمْ»
Sulaym bin Amir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We used to sit with Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him), and he would narrate many hadiths to us from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he fell silent, he would say: "Have you understood? Convey it onward just as it has been conveyed to you."
