It is narrated from Sayyiduna Safwan bin Assal (may Allah be pleased with him) that one of two Jews said to his companion: Come, take us to this Prophet. The other said: Do not call him a prophet, for if he hears you say that, he will have four eyes. So the two of them went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And We certainly gave Musa nine clear signs" [Surah al-Isra: 101]. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not associate anything with Allah; do not kill the soul which Allah has made sacred except by right; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not take an innocent person to a ruler to have him killed; do not consume usury (riba); do not slander a chaste woman; do not flee from the battlefield; and it is incumbent upon you Jews in particular not to transgress (the sanctity of) the Sabbath." At that, they kissed his hand and said: We bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then what prevents you from following me?" They said: Dawud (peace be upon him) prayed that there would always be a prophet among his descendants, and we fear that if we follow you, the Jews will kill us.
