حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ السَّقطِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ خَلَفٍ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْجُوبَارِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، جِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ الْعِلْمِ، قَالَ: «إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ لَتَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ رِضًى بِمَا يَطْلُبُ» ، «وَعَنْ أَيِّ الْعِلْمِ تَسْأَلُ؟» قُلْتُ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ. قَالَ: «نَعَمْ، يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ لِلْمُقِيمِ، وَثَلَاثٌ لِلْمُسَافِرِ مِنْ غَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ، ثُمَّ أَحْدَثَ وُضُوءًا»
Sayyiduna Safwan bin Assal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask about wiping over the leather socks. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have come to ask you about knowledge." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge out of pleasure with what he seeks. And about which knowledge are you asking?" I said: "O Prophet of Allah, about wiping over the leather socks." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, a day and a night for the resident, and three days for the traveller, because of defecation or urination; then he should perform (fresh) ablution."
