حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: «قُتِلَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، مَصْدَرَ الْحَاجِّ، وَذَلِكَ فِي سَنَةِ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ»
Al-Layth bin Sa'd said: The Commander of the Believers Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred when the pilgrims were returning (from Hajj), and that was in the year 23 AH.
