Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Al-Ahnaf bin Qays (may Allah have mercy on him) related: In the time of Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), while I was circumambulating the House, a man from Banu Layth took hold of my hand and said: Shall I not give you good news? I said: Certainly. He said: Do you remember when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to your people, Banu Sa'd, and I began presenting Islam to them and calling them to it, and you said: Indeed this man calls to good and commands it; indeed he calls to good and commands it. I conveyed that to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Bind (good) for al-Ahnaf." Al-Ahnaf (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: "There is nothing among my deeds that I have more hope in than this."
