Companions Whose Names Begin with Shin (ش)
شيبة بن عتبة بن ربيعة بن عبد شمس بن عبد مناف أبو هاشم خال معاوية بن أبي سفيان رضي الله عنه، وأمه خناس بنت مالك بن مالك بن المضرب حجير بن عبد معيص بن عامر بن لؤي بن غالب بن فهر بن مالك، وكان أعور، فقئت عينه يوم اليرموك، وتوفي في زمن معاوية رضي الله عنه
Shaybah bin Utbah bin Rabiah bin Abd Shams bin Abd Manaf Abu Hashim (may Allah be pleased with him), the maternal uncle of Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him); his mother was Khunas bint Malik bin Malik bin al-Mudarrib bin Hujayr bin Abd Muays bin Amir bin Luayy bin Ghalib bin Fihr bin Malik; he was one-eyed, having lost an eye on the Day of Yarmuk, and he died in the time of Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْقَطَّانِيُّ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، ثنا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْهَرَوِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى خَالِهِ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ قَالَ: مَالَكَ أَجَزَعٌ وَحِرْصٌ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا؟ قَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «عَسَى أَنْ تُدْرِكُوا أَقْوَامًا يُؤْثِرُونَ أَمْوَالًا، وَإِنَّمَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا دَارٌ وَمَرْكَبٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ»
Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) visited his maternal uncle, and when he saw him he said: What is the matter with you, anxiety and greed for the world? He said: No, but I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Perhaps you will come upon people who prefer wealth, whereas for each one of you, of the world, only a house and a mount in the path of Allah suffice."
