Through the same chain, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid the owner of date palms from taking a debt against the fruit of his palms until some of its fruit had been eaten, for fear that he might take on a large debt, the fruit would be spoiled, and he would be unable to repay it; he used to forbid the owner of crops from taking a debt against his crops until harvest time came; and he used to forbid the owner of gold, if he sold it for food (to be delivered) at the fruit (harvest), from selling the food for gold until the food had been measured and he had taken possession of it, for fear of usury (riba).
