It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asking for a ruling about kalalah: O Messenger of Allah, inform me: is a man's kalalah meant to be his brothers from both his mother and his father? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said nothing to him, except that he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited to him the verse of kalalah in Surah al-Nisa. Then the man began asking again, and every time he asked, he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited that same verse, until he insisted greatly and began raising his voice, and his clamour grew intense out of his eagerness to get an explanation from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); so he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the same verse to him, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "By Allah, I will not give you more than what I have been given; by Allah, I will not give you more than what I have been given," until he (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated it, whereupon the man sat down and fell silent.
