Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 6759 — a Bedouin asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ كَرَامَةَ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ أَبِي الْحُرِّ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: سَأَلَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَا تَقُولُ فِي الضِّبَابِ؟ فَقَالَ: «مُسِخَتْ أُمَّةٌ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ فَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ , أَيُّ الدَّوَابِّ مُسِخَتْ»
Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a Bedouin asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "What do you say about the dabb (spiny-tailed lizard)?" So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A nation from the Children of Israel was transformed, and Allah knows best into which of the animals they were transformed."
