Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 641 — We came to the Prophet ﷺ in a delegation

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَعَارِمٌ، قَالَا: ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ثنا عَقِيلُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ السُّلَمِيُّ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ هَيْضَمٍ، عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ: أَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ لَا يَرَوْنِي بِأَفْضَلِهِمْ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا نَزْعُمُ أَنَّكَ مِنَّا، قَالَ: «لَا، نَحْنُ بَنُو النَّضْرِ بْنِ كِنَانَةَ لَا نَقْفُوا أُمَّنَا، وَلَا نَنْتَفِي مِنْ أَبِينَا» قَالَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، لَا أَسْمَعُ أَحَدًا نَفَى قُرَيْشًا مِنْ كِنَانَةَ إِلَّا جَلَدْتُهُ
Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a delegation from Kindah, and they did not regard me as better than them. I said: O Messenger of Allah! We claim that you are from us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No. We are Banu al-Nadr bin Kinanah; we do not trace our lineage through our mother, nor do we disown our father." Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Prophet of Allah! I will not hear anyone separate Quraysh from Kinanah except that I will flog him.
