Sa'id bin Jumhan said: I asked Sayyiduna Safinah (may Allah be pleased with him) about his name, and he said: I will tell you about my name. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) named me Safinah (ship). I asked: Why did he (peace and blessings be upon him) name you Safinah? He said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a journey and we, his companions, were with him (peace and blessings be upon him). Their baggage became heavy for the Companions, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spread out your cloak." I spread it out, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) placed everyone's baggage in it, then loaded it onto me and said: "Carry it, for you are nothing but a ship." Sayyiduna Safinah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Had I carried the load of one or two camels, or five wasqs (of goods), that day, it would not have been heavy for me.
