حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ فَضَالَةَ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو حَفْصٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْلَى بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ، حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمِّي أُمَيْمَةُ، عَنْ أُمِّهَا رُقَيْقَةَ أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهَا قَالَتْ: لَمَّا جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَبْتَغِي النَّصْرَ بِالطَّائِفِ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا، فَأَمَرَتْ لَهُ بِشَرَابٍ مِنْ سَوِيقٍ، فَشَرِبَ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا رُقَيْقَةُ لَا تَعْبُدِي طَاغِيَتَهُمْ، وَلَا تُصَلِّي لَهَا» ، قُلْتُ: إِذًا يَقْتُلُونِي، قَالَ: " فَإِذَا قَالُوا لَكَ ذَلِكَ، فَقُولِي: رَبِّي رَبُّ هَذِهِ الطَّاغِيَةِ، فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتِ فَوَلِّهَا ظَهْرَكِ "، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِمْ، قَالَتْ بِنْتُ رُقَيْقَةَ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَخَوَايَ سُفْيَانُ، وَوَهْبٌ ابْنَا قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبَانَ قَالَا: لَمَّا أَسْلَمَ ثَقِيفٌ خَرَجْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «مَا فَعَلَتْ أُمُّكُمَا؟» قُلْنَا: هَلَكَتْ فِي الْحَالِ الَّتِي تَرَكْتَهَا، فَقَالَ: «لَقَدْ أَسْلَمَتْ أُمُّكُمَا إِذَنْ»
Sayyidah Ruqayqah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Ta'if seeking support, he (peace and blessings be upon him) visited me. I had a drink of sawiq (barley gruel) prepared for him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he drank it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Ruqayqah! Do not worship their idol, and do not pray to it." I said: "Then these people will kill me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When they say that to you, say: My Lord is the Lord of this idol too. And when you pray, turn your back towards it." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left them. The daughter of Ruqayqah narrates: My two brothers, Sufyan and Wahb, the sons of Qays bin Aban, told me that when the tribe of Thaqif accepted Islam, we went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What became of your mother?" We said: "She died in the same state in which you left her." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then your mother certainly died as a Muslim."
