Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Abi Zuhayr (may Allah be pleased with him), a man from the tribe of Azd Shanu'ah and one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), narrating to some people at the door of the mosque. He was saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever keeps a dog that is of no use to him for crops or for livestock, a qirat is deducted from his deeds every day." (Al-Sa'ib) asked: "Did you hear this yourself from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah."
