Sayyiduna Jabir bin Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was sitting with his knees drawn up, wrapped in a sheet (in the posture of ihtiba), whose fringes had fallen over his feet. I said: "Which of you is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand towards himself. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I am one of the desert folk, and I have their harshness in me, so give me some advice." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Never regard any good deed as insignificant, even if it is that you meet your brother with a cheerful face, and even if it is that you pour from your bucket into the vessel of one seeking water. And if a man insults you with something that is truly in you, then do not insult him with what you know about him, for its reward will be yours and its sin will be upon him. And beware of letting the lower garment hang down, for letting the lower garment hang down is part of arrogance, and Allah does not love arrogance. And never revile anyone." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: After that I never reviled anyone, not even a goat or a camel.
