Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 6347 — Sayyiduna Abu Hudhayfah bin Utbah bin

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Hudhayfah bin Utbah bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the people of Badr, had adopted Salim, who is called Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had adopted Zayd. Abu Hudhayfah, considering Salim to be his son, married him to his niece (sister's daughter), Fatimah bint al-Walid bin Utbah. She was one of the first women to emigrate, and at that time she was among the best unmarried women of Quraysh. Then when Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed what He revealed concerning this: "Call them by (the names of) their fathers" [Surah al-Ahzab: 5], each of those adopted sons began to be called by the name of his father, and if his father was not known, he was attributed back to his masters. Then Sayyidah Sahlah bint Suhayl (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Abu Hudhayfah and was from Banu Amir bin Lu'ayy, came (to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, we used to regard Salim as a son. He used to come in to me while I was at home uncovered, and we have only one house. What is your view? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Suckle him, and you will become unlawful (for marriage) to him."
