Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 6148 — I was walking with Sayyiduna Salman

A man from Banu Abs said: I was walking with Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) along the bank of the Tigris, and he said: O brother of Banu Abs! Dismount and drink. So I drank. Then he said: Drink more. So I drank. He said: How much has your drinking lessened the Tigris? I said: How could it lessen it at all! He said: Knowledge is like that; it is taken from and it does not lessen. Then he said: Mount. Then we passed by heaps of wheat and barley, and he said: "Do you think that this (world) has been opened up for us and was made scarce for the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) because it is good for us and bad for them?" I said: I do not know. He said: "But I know: it is bad for us and good for them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never ate his fill for three consecutive days until he met Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
