حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، ثنا كَثِيرُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ زِيَادٍ، وعَلَاقَةَ، ابْنَيْ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَصْلٌ، فَلْيَسْتَمْسِكْ بِهِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ بِهَا أَصْلٌ، فَلْيَجْعَلْ لَهُ بِهَا أَصْلًا، فَلَيَأْتِيَّنَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يَكُونُ الَّذِي لَيْسَ لَهُ بِهَا أَصْلٌ كَالْخَارِجِ مِنْهَا الْمُجْتازِ إِلَى غَيْرِهَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has a root (property) in Madinah, let him hold firmly to it, and whoever has no root in Madinah, let him make a root for himself there, for a time will surely come upon the people when the one who has no root in Madinah will be like someone who has left it and is passing through to somewhere else."
