Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5974 — O Messenger of Allah, I have woven this

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that a woman brought a cloak and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have woven this with my own hand so that I may clothe you with it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took it, being in need of it, then came out to us wearing it as his lower garment. A man from the gathering touched it and said: "O Messenger of Allah, clothe me with this!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well." He (peace and blessings be upon him) sat in the gathering for as long as Allah willed, then went back, folded it and sent it to that man. The people said to him: "You did not do well; you asked him for it although you knew that he does not turn away anyone who asks." The man said: "By Allah, I asked for it only so that it would be my shroud on the day I die." Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "And it did become his shroud." Qutaybah (the narrator) said: It was Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him).
