حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ، فَوَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَهُ فَصَمَتَ، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا؟ فَقَالَ: «أَلَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ: لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: «فَهَلْ تَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْئًا؟» ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: مَاذَا؟ قَالَ: سُورَةَ كَذَا وَسُورَةَ كَذَا، فَقَالَ: «قَدْ أَمْلَكْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ» ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَمْضِي وَهِيَ تَتْبَعُهُ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and offered herself to him (in marriage), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then a man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! If you have no need of her, then marry her to me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have anything?" He said: No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know anything of the Qur'an?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What? He said: Such-and-such surah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have married her to you for what you have of the Qur'an." I saw the man going off and the woman following behind him.
