Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5825 — I asked Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd: Were

Abu Hazim narrated: I asked Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him): Were there sieves in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: "I did not see any sieve in that time, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never ate sifted barley until he departed from this world." I asked: Then what did you use to do? He said: "We would grind it, then blow on it; whatever flew away flew away, and whatever remained, remained."
