حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ، ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْأَسْلَمِيُّ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ سَهْلٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ بَالخَنْدَقِ، فَأَخَذَ الْكِرْزِينَ، فَحَفَرَ بِهِ، فَصَادَفَ حَجَرًا فَضَحِكَ، فَقِيلَ مَا يُضْحِكُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «ضَحِكْتُ مِنْ نَاسٍ يَأْتُونَكُمْ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ، ويُسَاقُونَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَهُمْ كَارِهُونَ»
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Trench. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took a pickaxe and dug with it, and he struck a stone, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what made you laugh? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I laughed at people who will come to you from the direction of the east, and will be driven towards Paradise while they are unwilling."
