حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي رَحِمَهُ اللهُ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ قَالَا: ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ مَوْلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ، فَرَأَيْتُ نَاسًا مُجْتَمِعِينَ، وَشَيْخًا يُحَدِّثُهُمْ، فَقُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟، قَالُوا: سَهْلُ ابْنُ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَنْ أَكَلَ لَحْمًا فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ»
Al-Qasim, the freed slave of Mu'awiyah, says: I entered the mosque of Damascus and saw some people gathered and an elderly man narrating hadith to them. I asked: Who is this? The people said: This is Sahl Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah (may Allah be pleased with him). Then I heard him say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever eats meat should perform ablution."
