It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her) in Makkah; before him she had been married to Atiq bin A'idh al-Makhzumi. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Makkah; he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not marry any virgin other than her. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Hafsah bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her) in Madinah; before him she had been married to Khunays bin Hudhafah al-Sahmi. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam'ah (may Allah be pleased with her); before him she had been married to al-Sakan bin Amr, the brother of Banu Amir bin Lu'ayy. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with her); before him she had been married to Ubaydullah bin Jahsh al-Asadi (of Banu Asad bin Khuzaymah). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Umm Salamah bint Abi Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), whose name was Hind; before him she had been married to Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Asad bin Abd al-Uzza. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her); before him she had been married to Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). He (peace and blessings be upon him) took captive Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith bin Abi Dirar (may Allah be pleased with her) of Banu al-Mustaliq (a clan of Khuza'ah) in the expedition in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) demolished the idol Manat, that is, the expedition of al-Muraysi'. He also took captive Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy bin Akhtab (may Allah be pleased with her) of Banu al-Nadir. These two were among the captives that Allah granted him (peace and blessings be upon him) as fay', and he (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted them their share. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took Sayyidah Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with her) of Banu Qurayzah as a concubine, then freed her; she went to her family and remained veiled while living with her family. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) divorced al-Aliyah bint Zabyan, separated from a woman of Banu Amr bin Kilab, and also from a woman of Banu al-Jawn, the Kindite, because of a whiteness (a skin disease) she had. Sayyidah Zaynab bint Khuzaymah al-Hilaliyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And it has reached us that al-Aliyah bint Zabyan married before Allah made his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives unlawful (to others); she married a cousin of hers from her own people and bore children among them.
