Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit the poor people of Madinah when they were ill and attend their funerals when they died. A woman from al-Awali died, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When she is ready, inform me." So they came to inform him (peace and blessings be upon him), but found him (peace and blessings be upon him) asleep, and a large part of the night had passed. They did not think it right to wake him (peace and blessings be upon him), and they feared for him the darkness of the night and the creeping creatures of the ground, so they took her away (and buried her). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) woke in the morning, he asked about her. They said: O Messenger of Allah! We came to inform you, but found you asleep, so we did not think it right to wake you, and we feared for you the darkness of the night and the creatures of the ground, so we left. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) walked to her grave, offered the funeral prayer over her and said four takbirs. These are the words of Uthman's narration.
