حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ: كَانَ بَيْنَ أَبْيَاتِنَا رَجُلٌ مُحْدِجٌ ضَعِيفٌ، فَلَمْ يُرَعْ إِلَّا وَهُوَ عَلَى أَمَةٍ مِنْ إِمَاءِ أَهْلِ الدَّارِ يَخْبُثُ بِهَا، فَرَفَعَ شَأْنَهُ سَعْدٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «اجْلِدُوهُ مِائَةَ سَوْطٍ» ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هُوَ أَضْعَفُ مِنْ ذَاكَ، لَوْ ضُرِبَ مِائَةً مَاتَ، قَالَ: «فَخُذُوا لَهُ عِثْكَالًا فِيهِ مِائَةُ شِمْرَاخٍ، فَاضْرِبُوهُ ضَرْبَةً وَاحِدَةً»
Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Among our houses there was an emaciated, weak man. Suddenly it became known that he was committing fornication with one of the slave-women of the household, so Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) brought his case before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give him a hundred lashes." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, he is far too weak for that; if he were given a hundred lashes he would die." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then take for him a date-palm branch with a hundred twigs in it, and strike him a single time."
