Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5355 — Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah sought a ruling

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ طَاهِرِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ، ثنا جَدِّي، ثنا إِدْرِيسُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، عَنْ حَيْوَةَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ، عَنْ عَقِيلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ اسْتَفْتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَذْرٍ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهِ، فَتُوُفِّيَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْضِيَهُ، فَأَفْتَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «أَنْ يَقْضِيَهُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) sought a ruling from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about a vow that his mother owed, and she had died before fulfilling it. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the ruling that he should fulfil it.
