حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: لَمَّا مَاتَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، بَكَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَبَكَى عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، حَتَّى عُرِفَ بُكَاءُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ مِنْ بُكَاءِ عُمَرَ، وَبُكَاءُ عُمَرَ مِنْ بُكَاءِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَقُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ: هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَبْكِي؟ قَالَتْ: «لَا، لَكِنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْبِضُ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ»
Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him) relates: Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also began to weep, until the weeping of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) could be distinguished from the weeping of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and the weeping of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) from the weeping of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). I asked Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also weep? She said: "No, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) was holding his blessed beard."
