Sayyiduna Ziyad bin Labid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned something, then said: "That will be at the time when knowledge departs." I said: O Messenger of Allah, how can knowledge depart when we recite the Qur'an, teach our sons to recite it, and our sons will teach their sons to recite it until the Day of Resurrection? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May your mother be bereaved of you, O Ziyad! I used to consider you among the most learned in understanding (fiqh) of the men of Madinah. Do these Jews and Christians not recite the Torah and the Injil, yet they do not act upon anything of them?"
