Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5219 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَخْرَمُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو حَفْصٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ، ثنا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو النَّضْرِ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: «عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً، فَإِنِ اعْتُرِفَتْ فَأَدِّهَا وَإِلَّا فَاعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَعَدَدَهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَأَدِّهَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a found item (luqatah), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce it for one year. If it is identified, hand it over to the owner; otherwise, take note of its bag and its number. Then if its owner comes, give it to him."
