حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَتَّابٍ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْأَعْيَنُ، ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ جَارِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي زَيْدُ بْنُ جَارِيَةَ، قَالَ: «اسْتَصْغَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَاسًا يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ، مِنْهُمُ زَيْدُ بْنُ جَارِيَةَ - يَعْنِي نَفْسَهُ - وَالْبَرَاءُ بْنُ عَازِبٍ، وَسَعْدُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيُّ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، وَجَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهٍ»
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Jariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that on the day of Uhud the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not permit some people to take part because they were too young; among them were Zayd bin Jariyah - meaning himself - al-Bara' bin Azib, Sa'd bin Khaythamah, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, Abdullah bin Umar and Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them).
