حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو النَّضْرِ، عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ لَمَّا قُبِرَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ الْعَلَاءِ: طِبْ أَبَا السَّائِبِ نَفْسًا إِنَّكَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، فَسَمِعَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «مَنْ هَذِهِ؟» فَقَالَتْ: أَنَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللهُ، فَقَالَ: «وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ؟» قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ قَالَ: «أَجَلْ مَا رَأَيْنَا إِلَّا خَيْرًا، أَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ وَاللهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا يُصْنَعُ بِي»
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) was buried, Umm al-Ala (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Abu al-Sa'ib, rejoice, you are in Paradise. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and said: "Who is this?" She said: It is I, O Prophet of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How do you know?" She said: O Messenger of Allah, he is Uthman bin Maz'un, after all. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, we saw nothing but good in him; but I am the Messenger of Allah, and by Allah, even I do not know what will be done with me."
