Mu'adh bin Rifa'ah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: On the day of Badr, when the people had gathered around Umayyah bin Khalaf, I came forward and saw a part of his coat of mail that had come open beneath his armpit, so I struck him a blow with the sword and killed him. And on the day of Badr I was hit by an arrow, "and my eye was put out. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) applied his saliva to it and supplicated for me, and after that it caused me no trouble at all."
