Sayyiduna Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) told Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade killing the snakes that live in houses.
And he said: "Each of you is a guardian, and each will be asked about his flock. Indeed, the ruler appointed over the people is a guardian and he will be asked about his flock; a man is a guardian over his family and he will be asked about them; a woman is a guardian over her husband's house and she will be asked about it; and a man's slave is a guardian over his master's property and he will be asked about it."
