Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We obtained some sheep and divided them at Dhu al-Hulayfah. A camel from among them bolted, so a man pursued it on his horse and struck it with a spear or hit it with a sword. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These camels too have a tendency to bolt like wild animals, so when any of them bolts, do this with it." A man said: We used to slaughter with a flint stone and a split stick. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Make the blood flow with whatever you wish, as long as it is not a tooth or a nail, for the tooth is bone, and the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians."
