Abayah bin Rifa'ah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: O Messenger of Allah, we are going to meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever makes the blood flow and over which the name of Allah is mentioned, eat it, except a tooth and a nail. I will tell you: the tooth is bone, and the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained some camels, and one of them bolted; a man shot it with an arrow and stopped it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These camels too have a tendency to bolt like wild animals, so whichever of them gets out of your control, do this with it." The narrator says: And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to count ten sheep as equal to one camel when dividing the spoils.
(The narrator) says: Sufyan also narrated this to me. Muhammad says: I heard these words from Sufyan myself.
