حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الرَّبَالِيُّ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ، ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ، قَالَ: مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَرْضِ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يَزْرَعُ وَقَدْ عَرَفَ أَنَّهُ مُحْتَاجٌ، فَقَالَ: «لِمَنْ هَذِهِ؟» ، فَقَالَ: لِفُلَانٍ أَعْطَانِيهَا بِالْأَجْرِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ مَنَحَهَا أَخَاهُ»
Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the land of a man from the Ansar who was cultivating it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) knew that he was needy. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whose is this?" He said: It belongs to so-and-so; he has given it to me for rent. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If only he had given it to his brother as a gift (without rent)."
